Helen J. Streubert, Ed.D., College of Saint Elizabeth President

President Streubert's headshotDr. Helen J. Streubert is the seventh president of the College of Saint Elizabeth, having assumed the role on July 1, 2013. As the first lay president in the 116-year history of the College, she is fully committed to strengthening the academic excellence and mission established by the Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth and will work with the college community to continue to develop leaders committed to service and social responsibility.

Prior to joining the College of Saint Elizabeth, she was the vice president of academic affairs at Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas, where she lead an academic leadership team of eight including three deans, the assistant vice president of continued learning, the associate vice president of academic affairs, the registrar, the director of online learning and the director of sponsored research. Dr. Streubert holds a doctoral degree from Teacher’s College, Columbia University, New York, N.Y., a master of science in nursing from Villanova University, Villanova, Pa. and a bachelor of science from Cedar Crest College, Allentown, Pa.

A well-respected author and engaging speaker, Dr. Streubert is recognized both nationally and internationally for her textbook, Qualitative Research in Nursing: Advancing the Humanistic Imperative, which has been published in four languages and is in its fifth printing. In addition to writing two textbooks, she has authored numerous chapters and articles on nursing education and qualitative research.

Dr. Streubert was instrumental in establishing the national model Ready Campus – an adaptable planning guide that prepares colleges and universities to serve as resources to their communities in times of crisis.

During her tenure at higher education institutions, including several sponsored by women religious, she served as a professor, department chair, division leader, special assistant to the president, service-learning center director, and associate vice president of academic affairs. Throughout her career, Dr. Streubert facilitated the development of accreditation documents, faculty development programs, and institutional advancement initiatives in corporate, foundation and government relations. She has created policies and processes to support institutional research and revised policy and governance documents.

She is a member of the Board of Trustees of Franklin Pierce University and the Cancer Center Council of the Cancer Research and Treatment Center of the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. Dr. Streubert has served on the boards of directors of the American Cancer Society, the Diversity Institute of Northeastern Pennsylvania and the American Red Cross. She has also served on several local, regional and national governing boards as well as in a community college, a liberal arts college, an academic health center, and in a comprehensive university setting.

As a well-respected teacher, administrator and scholar, she has received numerous awards including induction into the inaugural class of Fellows in Nursing Education (National League for Nursing), an elite group of 41 nurse educators recognized for their significant contributions in nursing education. More recently, she was honored for her service to the field of nursing when she was inducted into the Teachers College Nursing Education Alumni Hall of Fame.

Dr. Streubert resides in Morristown, N.J.
